Ohio State Lands Another Top In-State 2026 Recruit

March 25, 2025 by Last Word On College Football

A common criticism of the Justin Frye era on the Ohio State offensive line was a lack of quality recruits coming to Columbus. In a short time, Tyler Bowen has shown that he is the man for the job. For the second time in 15 days, the Buckeyes’ 2026 class added an offensive line recruit as four-star tackle Sam Greer committed on Tuesday.

At the time of his commitment, Greer is considered by 247Sports to be the 23rd-best tackle in the county.  As well as the ninth-best player in Ohio regardless of position. He joins as the sixth member of the Buckeyes’ 2026 class and is the second offensive lineman. Ohio State now has four of the top 10 players from Ohio committed with an expectation that at least a few will join later in the process. Greer was in town again for Ohio State’s Spring practice and chose the Buckeyes over Missouri, Florida, and Tennessee.

Its been an amazing journey, grateful to have been surrounded by so many good people on my way, thank you to all the coach’s that have believed in me and helped to develop me I’ll be forever thankful. In the end I’ve decided to commit to THEE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY!!!🌰🌰🌰 pic.twitter.com/Txwl7c6FP4

2026 In-State Recruit Sam Greer Commits to Buckeyes

Last week, Greer visited Columbus and was impressed with how the Buckeyes are not getting complacent despite coming off a national title. According to Greer, “What stood out was the new tempo there. They want to get things done, and they’re extremely competitive. They try to be uncommon in everything they do. I love the culture and coaching staff at Ohio State.”

Coming from Akron where there is a Division I program in the Zips, Ohio State is the flagship program in the state. Greer recognized that and is honored to get the opportunity to represent the scarlet and gray:

“It means a lot to have the opportunity to be a Buckeye,” he said. “As a kid from the state, I have a ton of family and friends rooting for the Buckeyes in my recruitment.”

After Greer visited the Buckeyes, he took a trip to Michigan on the 22nd. Consequently, he decided he knew the best route for his future was going to be at Ohio State. He was slated to visit Miami (FL), Louisville, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, and Wisconsin in the coming weeks. Missouri, Florida State, and Michigan are reported to still be very interested in Greer.  Bowen and the Buckeyes will have to defend against a flip over the next nine months.

What’s Next?

While Ohio State has two 2026 recruits on the offensive line (both from Ohio).  There are a few more big fish the Buckeyes are going to try and land. Five-star linemen Jackson Cantwell and Felix Ojo are high on the priority list. In addition, four-star linemen Micah Smith and Darius Gray are on the radar.

Greer is a great run blocker from the left tackle position although he could play either side when he gets on campus. Rivals praised his ability to fire off at the snap and his long arms to keep edge rushers off his quarterback. The six-foot-seven, 310-pound monster is also a star on the hardwood and can dunk with ease.
