Newcastle United Won’t Sign Jesse Lingard

Newcastle United

Newcastle United won’t sign Jesse Lingard as the midfielder’s financial demands are too high, reports The Telegraph. The English international will probably look for a move abroad.

Wage Demands Are an Issue

Newcastle United are ending the season in the Premier League in spectacular form. After fighting for their survival until January, now the team could even aim for a top ten finish. The new owners spent over €100 million in transfer fees in the winter and the investments paid off. Therefore, it is safe to say we can expect the club to be active in the coming summer.

One of the stars rumoured to be a target for Newcastle United was Jesse Lingard. The midfielder will leave his academy club Manchester United as a free agent after the end of the current campaign. The club tried to sign the English international on loan during the busy winter transfer window, but the deal collapsed as Manchester United wanted £16 million for the player.

Now, it looks like Newcastle Untied won’t approach the player as a free agent due to his high financial demands. The report suggests that Jesse Lingard wants a wage of around £150,000 per week, plus a huge signing fee. That would make him the club’s highest-paid player. Newcastle United are not interested in such a deal as the player will also turn 30 this year.

Jesse Lingard May Sign for A Club From Abroad

With Newcastle cooling their interest in the midfielder, Jesse Lingard could leave England. It is reported that several Italian clubs are following the situation and could opt to sign the player as a free agent. The midfielder has been followed by AC Milan and Juventus in the past months so such a destination is looking more likely.

However, if a move to Italy doesn’t go through, there is one more option for Jesse Lingard. His other former club West Ham United could once again decide to trust in his abilities. Exactly during his loan spell in London, Lingard played his best football in years, earning a call-up for the national team. The midfielder scored nine goals and provided four assists in only 16 games for the Hammers.
