Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba will not join rivals Manchester City, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Reports last week suggested that the World Cup winner could make the switch across the city in the summer when his Red Devils contract expires, but his representatives are targeting a move to Europe instead.

Paul Pogba Looking to Move Away From the Premier League

According to Ornstein, Paul Pogba is targeting a move to Europe with some of the continent’s top clubs looking to sign the midfielder.

Former club Juventus remain keen on re-signing the midfielder, while Paris Saint-Germain in his native France and Champions League finalists Real Madrid have also shown their interest.

It is believed that those three clubs, in particular, can offer the 29-year-old more than what City have proposed and a move away from England seems highly likely.

Therefore, he will not join the likes of Denis Law and Carlos Tevez in making a switch between the two Manchester clubs.

What This Means for Manchester City

Pep Guardiola is in the market for a combative midfielder. Fernandinho is expected to bring an end to his nine-year stay with the club in the summer when his contract ends and the Citizens had identified Pogba as an ideal replacement.

And Pogba was keen on the switch, too. Although he has been at Old Trafford for eight seasons in total, the Frenchman gave “serious contemplation” to the offer on the table from United’s rivals.

However, despite the imminent arrival of Erling Haaland, this news will come as a bitter blow for the Premier League leaders. Now, they must turn their attention to other targets with Pogba’s representatives asking for more than what City are looking to offer.
