Manchester United and Nottingham Forest to Set New FA Youth Cup Attendance Record

April 30, 2022 by Last Word On College Football

Youth Cup Attendance Record

Manchester United and Nottingham Forest are set to break the FA Youth Cup attendance record.

The Red Devils confirmed on manutd.com earlier on Friday afternoon that they had outsold the previous record of 38,137.

Their U18s meet at Old Trafford on May 11. The previous record was set by Arsenal and United in March 2007 in a semi-final first leg at the Emirates Stadium.

More Sales Anticipated

With over a week to go until the fixture, Manchester United’s ticket office are hoping for even more sales, even after outselling the current standing record.

The numbers represent a great turnout in support of the club’s respective academies in a historic competition.

Tickets are on sale for £1 with proceeds going to the Manchester United Foundation.

Route to the Youth Cup Final

On their way to the final, Manchester United have overcome Scunthorpe United (4-2), Reading (3-1), Everton (4-1), Leicester City (2-1) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (3-0).

Whilst Nottingham Forest’s route saw them beat Bristol City (3-1), Peterborough United (2-1), Cambridge United (5-3 on penalties), Blackburn Rovers (3-1) and Chelsea (3-1).

Manchester United are historically the most successful club in the competition but have not lifted the title since 2011 – when they beat Sheffield United 6-3 in a two-legged final. The final now consists of just one leg.

Forest are competing in the final for the first time.

Alejandro Garnacho the One to Watch

17-year-old Argentina U20 international Alejandro Garnacho recently debuted for the Red Devils in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford. He has particularly shone in this competition in 2021/22, building an exceptional record at Old Trafford – where United allow their youngsters to play when they can, giving them an early taste of the Theatre of Dreams ahead of reaching the first-team.

Garnacho was recently called-up to the Argentina first-team setup, where he will have trained alongside Lionel Messi. He is yet to debut for his country at senior level but is clearly in their thoughts having earlier represented Spain at youth level.
