Regular readers may remember me pining for a few days off, and I sort of got them over the holiday weekend. Thing is, not I’m even more pressed for time than usual. Not only are we having a new washing machine delivered after ours gave up the ghost last week, but my son and I are headed up to Chicago in the afternoon. Not for a Cubs game, of course, but to see Wu-Tang Clan and Run The Jewels at the United Center. With that in mind, I’ve got to move super quick here.
Oh hey, before I could write any more, I just found out our basement flooded. I can only presume it’s a sump pump issue, but we’ll find out before long. Still heading to the concert because it’s a sunk cost and it’ll be good to keep my mind off things for a while. Fun times.
And now for my even more abbreviated thoughts.

Cubs outclass Cardinals
Despite owning just a 4-3 record against them this season, the Cubs look to be head and shoulders above the Cardinals in terms of talent. I’d say the same thing about the Brewers, but they’re still a little closer in the standings. Assuming Jed Hoyer will be aggressive at the deadline, the NL Central should be academic.
Suzuki and Busch hosed
All-Star reserves were named on Sunday, and neither Seiya Suzuki nor Michael Busch made the cut. With full understanding that this is due to the antiquated mandate that each team get a representative, it’s objectively dumb to leave these two off. Suzuki leads MLB with 77 RBI and is sixth with 25 homers. Busch’s 166 wRC+ leads all first basemen and is fifth overall in MLB. Pete Alonso is worse (though only marginally so) across nearly every metric, but alas.
Trailer Time
I loved The Odyssey when I read it back in the day, and it resulted in one of the coolest projects I’ve ever worked on. My buddy and I created a map of the epic journey on a piece of posterboard, then used a lighter to burn the edges and put holes in it to make it look really old. Our teacher loved it so much that she kept it displayed in her room for years.
When Christopher Nolan is involved, you know it’s going to be good.
