Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (6/17/25): Cubs 5, Brewers 3 – PCA Steals Show

June 18, 2025 by Cubs Insider

The Cubs welcomed the second place Brewers to Wrigley Tuesday night to start an important three-game series. Chicago landed the big blow in the middle innings to take the lead and held on to win.

Milwaukee went out in front in the top of the 2nd when Isaac Collins hit a two-run homer off of Ben Brown to make it 2-0. The North Siders cut the deficit in half on an RBI double by Matt Shaw against starter Chad Patrick in the bottom of the frame.

The Cubs got runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the 5th for Seiya Suzuki, who pounded a low fastball from Patrick for a go-ahead three-run homer to left that gave the home team a 4-2 advantage. The Brewers got one back in the top of the 6th when Joey Ortiz had an RBI single against reliever Génesis Cabrera.

Pete Crow-Armstrong put on a show in the 8th inning with an incredible diving catch in the top half and a monster solo home run off of old friend Rob Zastryzny in the bottom half to boost Chicago’s lead to 5-3.

Daniel Palencia was able to shut the door in the 9th inning to close out a 5-3 Cubs victory. (Box score)

Key Moment

Chicago has had difficulty scoring lately, so Suzuki’s dinger was a big deal and completely changed the game with a single swing.

Why the Cubs Won

The bullpen combined with more spectacular defense to assure another victory.

Stats That Matter

  • Brown made one mistake but did a decent job Tuesday: 5 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 5 K, 2 BB.
  • Kyle Tucker had three hits, including a pair of doubles.

Bottom Line

Tuesday’s win was huge for the Cubs as they try to solidify their position atop the National League Central. PCA might be the most exciting player in baseball right now; all he does is make unbelievable plays in every aspect of the game.

On Deck

Chicago tries to win the series Wednesday night at 7:05pm CT. Jameson Taillon gets the nod against Jacob Misiorowski in a contest available on Marquee with the radio feed on 670 The Score.
