Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (6/11/25): Phillies 7, Cubs 2 – Chicago Bohmed at Bank

June 12, 2025 by Cubs Insider

The Cubs and Phillies played in the decisive game of their series at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday afternoon. Philadelphia had a big opening inning and never looked back, winning easily.

Ben Brown had more problems in the 1st inning, giving up three runs to put Chicago in an early hole. Alec Bohm had an RBI grounder, Max Kepler doubled, and J.T. Realmuto singled to provide the Philly offense.

Kyle Schwarber made it a 4-0 game with a solo home run in the bottom of the 3rd. The Cubs did their only scoring against Jesús Luzardo on a Nico Hoerner double in the top of the 4th. Bohm did even more damage in the bottom of the frame with a two-run single to make it 6-1.

He completed his big afternoon Wednesday with a solo home run off of Génesis Cabrera in the bottom of the 7th. Ian Happ tripled and scored on a Kyle Tucker groundout in the 8th, but it was too little, too late as the Phillies won 7-2. (Box score)

Key Moment

The Phillies put the game away immediately with the big 1st inning. The Cubs never recovered from that and went down rather quietly.

Why the Cubs Lost

A bad starting pitching performance and ineffective offense made this one a rough game.

Stats That Matter

  • Brown appeared to be hyped up to face the team that drafted him and overthrew his pitches early: 5.2 IP, 6 R, 8 H, 5 K, 3 BB.
  • Carson Kelly had a single and a double and hit the ball hard.
  • Hoerner also had a pair of hits.

Bottom Line

The Cubs finished the road trip with a 4-5 record, which is a good outcome against some of the best teams and pitchers in baseball. More importantly, they lost almost no ground in the standings to the Cardinals and Brewers. Pete Crow-Armstrong got the day off Wednesday and manager Craig Counsell is likely to give the rest of his regulars a break during this long stretch of consecutive games.

On Deck

The Cub welcome the Pirates to Wrigley for a four-game series beginning Thursday at 7:05pm CT. Jameson Taillon is on the mound against Andrew Heaney in a matchup available on Marquee with the radio feed on 670 The Score.
