Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (6/10/25): Cubs 8, Phillies 4 – Happ Homers Twice in Win

June 11, 2025 by Cubs Insider

The Cubs and Phillies met in the second game of their series at Citizens Bank Park Tuesday night. Chicago broke out the bats in this one and hit four home runs en route to a win.

Dansby Swanson put the North Siders ahead with a solo home run off of Mick Abel in the top of the 2nd inning. Philadelphia answered back in the bottom of the frame when Max Kepler took Colin Rea deep for a two-run dinger to give the home team a 2-1 lead.

Ian Happ and Michael Busch hit homers in the 3rd and 4th innings, respectively, to give Chicago a 3-2 advantage. Ryan Brasier allowed a pair of inherited runs to score on a single by Alec Bohm in the bottom of the 5th and the Phillies went back in front 4-3.

Happ hit is second homer of the game in the 6th, this one a two-run shot off of Taijuan Walker that gave the Cubs a 5-4 lead and they would add valuable insurance with three more scored in the top of the 8th. Reese McGuire doubled, then Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki hit consecutive RBI single to put the away team on top 8-4.

That would be the final as Chicago closed out the final two frames to secure the victory. (Box score)

Key Moment

Adding three late insurance runs was huge on a night where the conditions were helping the offense. It definitely lowered the tension for the Cubs at the end of the game.

Why the Cubs Won

The lineup did a lot of damage to the Phillies bullpen and their relievers did a much better job to hold the lead.

Stats That Matter

  • Rea had another difficult game Tuesday: 4.1 IP, 4 R, 7 H, 5 K, 0 BB.
  • Happ has four home runs in his last six games.
  • Swanson reached base three times.
  • McGuire had a couple of well-struck knocks.

Bottom Line

The Cubs are 4-4 on this difficult road trip and have held their own regardless of what happens on Wednesday. The offense has had some struggles against elite starting pitching, but they have beaten up on everyone else. It would be very helpful if Happ went on one of his patented hot streaks.

On Deck

The deciding game of the series and the trip is Wednesday afternoon at 12:05pm CT. Ben Brown faces off against Jesús Luzardo in a contest broadcast on MLB Network and Marquee with the radio feed on 670 The Score.
