Y’all know what my excuse for a short breakdown is by now, so I’ll spare you that. However, I am going to go ahead and upset anyone who dislikes my personal anecdotes by bragging on my son a little bit. He went through a pretty big growth spurt last year and is up to 6-foot-3 and around 205 pounds, which is a good thing. It did jack up his mechanics a bit though, so he’s kind of been learning on the fly.
He just pitched his last game of the season yesterday evening, tossing a one-hit complete game against a team that was talking mad trash despite being dominated. My son was raised to understand that we don’t start stuff, but we will damn sure finish it. And finish it he did, walking off the mound after only 76 pitches and exclaiming loudly that his opponents should stop talking.

That’s kind of how the Cubs game felt last night, especially when Ian Happ homered to break a scoreless tie. Matt Shaw then iced the game, perhaps quieting some of the rumors about the Cubs spending big to rent Eugenio Suarez for a few months. Now it’s Ben Brown’s chance to silence the legions of detractors.
That won’t be easy because he’s looked far too tentative out there several times, including his most recent appearance after being recalled from Triple-A. Brown needs to go out there and let it eat without trying to get cute. Shove the fastball down their throats and throw the changeup with conviction, then let the curve buckle knees.
And hey, how about the offense scoring a few runs early for a change? See below for lineup.
They’re up against rookie righty Grant Taylor, who is making just his second career start as the opener in this one. He’s got three saves and five holds, not bad for a young guy on a team for which wins come at a premium. But since he’ll only go an inning, maybe two at the most, I don’t see a reason to do analysis. The Sox don’t have very good pitching and shouldn’t pose a threat as long as the Cubs don’t soil the bed.
First pitch is at 1:10pm CT on Marquee and 670 The Score.
