Reports: Phillies Sign Former ALCS MVP Outfielder

December 15, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly decided to sign outfielder Adolis García, a former ALCS MVP, to a one-year, $10 million deal, according to reporter Francys Romero. Matt Gelb of The Athletic, Jeff Passan of ESPN, and others have confirmed the report from Romero. The Texas Rangers non-tendered García earlier this offseason. The Phillies are taking a chance on García and hoping he rebounds. Last offseason, the Phillies made a similar move, signing Max Kepler to a nearly identical deal. Kepler did not perform well for the most part this season.

Adolis García, non-tendered on Friday by the Rangers, could be a fit on the Phillies.

Phillies Sign 2023 ALCS MVP Adolis García, Per Report

García had a .227/.271/.394 line with 19 home runs and 75 RBI in 135 games in 2025. He also recorded an 83 wRC+ and a .267 BABIP, along with a 0.21 BB/K rate. Defensively, García had a 16 DRS/1 OAA/2 FRV season in right field. He is a right-handed outfield bat, which has been a huge need for the Phillies. If García can return to his 2023 form at the plate, this could end up being a good signing for the Phillies. That season, García helped the Rangers to their first-ever World Series title and won ALCS MVP.

BREAKING: Cuban OF Adolis García and the Philadelphia Phillies are finalizing a one-year, $10 million contract, pending a physical, per sources.

Adolis will look to contribute on a contending team and return to his 2023 offensive production, when he was named ALCS MVP.

Outfield Changes This Offseason

Signing García is likely the first of multiple outfield moves the Phillies will make this offseason. Nick Castellanos will likely be traded or released at some point this offseason. Castellanos has one-year and $20 million remaining on his contract. Justin Crawford is expected to be a starting outfielder for the Phillies in 2026 as well. García is in line to take over right field, with Crawford likely taking over center field. Harrison Bader is unlikely to be re-signed based on how the outfield market is playing out. Bader seems to be in high demand across the league, as reliable right-handed outfield bats are few and far between.
