Dodgers Make Multiple Moves in Search of Fresh Arms

June 3, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

The Los Angeles Dodgers are refreshing their roster again, announcing Monday that they made a trade to acquire right-handed pitcher Will Klein from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for right-hander Joe Jacques. In addition, they have designated right-handed reliever Chris Stratton for assignment, while optioning Noah Davis to Triple-A Oklahoma City and recalling right-hander Ryan Loutos.

Dodgers Acquire Pitcher Will Klein from Mariners, Make Several Roster Moves

Do They Need a High-Speed Shuttle?

Stratton had been designated for assignment by the Kansas City Royals just last week. In his brief time in a Dodger uniform, he gave up two runs and two walks with five strikeouts in three appearances. The 34-year-old veteran had signed a two-year contract with the Royals after 2023. But his 6.09 ERA made him expendable.

For his part, Noah Davis served his purpose. A former Colorado Rockies pitcher, he has mixed results as a Dodger. Los Angeles is looking for arms to cover innings due to a rash of injuries. For what it’s worth, Davis’s latest outing was a sight better than the first.

Will Klein had a 7.17 ERA with Triple-A Tacoma before the Mariners released him.

The Latest Casualty

Just yesterday, the Dodgers placed right-handed reliever Luis Garcia on the injured list with an abductor injury. Garcia has been used to cover crucial innings for a bullpen that has logged the most innings in baseball. He is the 15th Los Angeles pitcher currently on the IL. This is on the heels of the announcement that closer Evan Phillips will have Tommy John surgery.

To make matters worse, Tyler Glasnow‘s return is unknown, after he “was sore” playing catch, according to manager Dave Roberts.

Mookie’s Still Missing

Mookie Betts is not in the lineup tonight as the Dodgers open a series at home against the New York Mets. This is the fourth straight game that the shortstop has missed due to a broken toe on his left foot. However, he did take infield practice and ran the bases today. If all goes well, he may play tomorrow. As it is, Betts remains “day-to-day.” But then again, as Vin Scully used to say, “Aren’t we all?”
