Three things I like about Notre Dame QB #12 Blake Hebert

QB3

The Notre Dame football roster is full of great players — known and unknown. No matter the place on the depth chart or the recruiting ranking a player had attached to him before his arrival at Notre Dame — there are probably some things I really like about him. So over the course of the next few months, let’s take a positive approach to running down the roster.

Almost daily (just being honest) I’ll list three things I like about a single player on the roster, and as an additional bonus, I’ll post some extra pics over on the OFD Instagram account (be sure to follow RIGHT HERE).

Next up…

#12 Blake Hebert — Quarterback

Even though Notre Dame has made Connecticut a pipeline state of sorts for football recruiting, the state still lacks any real respect nationally. And yet… here is Blake Hebert. The incoming freshman stands at 6’3” 225 pounds and was a 4-Star prospect coming out of Brunswick School. Hebert was once committed to the Clemson Tigers but flipped to the Irish in the middle of the season.

Here are three things I like about Blake Hebert:

1. I like the rivalry spice.

With all this schedule and rivalry talk between Notre Dame and Clemson, I like the possibility of a Hebert moment in a future BYOG game. Usually, these type of stories go the other way around.

2. I like his size.

6’3” isn’t 6’5” but Hebert looks like he is very much the QB standard that we hear about when the NFL Draft comes around each year. It’s not just his height, however, as Hebert is every bit the 225 pounds that he is listed at on the roster. He’s different than CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey, and I think that’s a good thing.

3. I like that he’s overlooked.

Obviously there’s a strong chance that Blake Hebert may finish his college career somewhere other than Notre Dame, but that scenario is far from a certainty. He’s a bit of an underdog at QB, but he’s still QB3, and I like the thought of a fun story. Mostly though… I like that he’s not weighed down with the pressure of being THE man early in career.
