Shane Gillis is pretty much all of us right now

Except YOU’RE not that funny

One of the auxiliary things that came about during the 2024 Notre Dame Football season was the ascension of Shane Gillis as one of the leading celebrity voices for college football via his Notre Dame fandom.

Gillis used his celebrity status, and his deep and sincere roots as an Irish fan, to be THE guy ESPN went to as they televised College Gameday from South Bend for Notre Dame’s college football playoff game against the Indiana Hoosiers.

That one night in itself made Gillis a household name (if his comedic talents had not already) among Irish fans. He called out and poked fun at Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

With that performance from Gillis, and then three wins in the playoff (including a Sugar Bowl win over the Georgia Bulldogs and an Orange Bowl win over the Penn State Nittany Lions) to make it to the national championship game — Shane stepped up in a way that Regis, Bon Jovi, President Bartlett, or whoever else just couldn’t.

Now he’s back at it again, and doing exactly what many of you have been doing over the last five months. He’s looking at the Irish football schedule and giving his preseason prediction.

It’s exactly what you think it would be.

There’s literally nothing he says here that many of you haven’t already said or thought — and it’s brilliant.

The side view of all of this is that Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame have got us all here. The expectations and bar is set at a level we often talk about, but rarely come close to seeing. The fun part is the journey and the friends we make along the way — like Shane.
