One of the more interesting storylines for the 2024-2025 College Football Playoff run for Notre Dame, was just how many players from the transfer portal directly helped the Irish along the way. They weren’t just small moments either — these were HUGE game-changing and life-altering plays that put Notre Dame in the win column.
Riley Leonard, Beaux Collins, Mitch Jeter, Jayden Harrison, RJ Oben, and more helped define the Irish playoff run, and essentially, the season as a whole. But have you changed your mind about the transfer portal at all (whatever that may have been)?
Marcus Freeman has always maintained that high school recruiting is the core of the football program, and there’s nothing to suggest that will or should change. Still, given the nature of the portal and the immediate impact it provides — are you more interested in what happens there as opposed to the always weird high school recruiting news?
According to a recent SB Nation Reacts survey, 70% of college football fans are more invested in high school recruiting than the transfer portal.

Maybe it’s all the shiny stars, the boundless potential, and no evidence to the contrary that attracts fans more to the HS side of things — but it’s also probably because no program has had any REAL success (yes, I’m looking right at you Colorado Buffaloes) by making the portal THE key strategy.
Can the same be said about college basketball? Personally, I feel like the portal is even more important on the court than on the gridiron — but the way teams have to fill almost 75% of its roster each season with the portal is exhausting and far less hopeful.
