Tinney Named as Semifinalist for Buster Posey Award
WICHITA, Kan. – Sophomore catcher Carson Tinney was named as a semifinalist for the 2025 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award as announced by the award committee on Monday, May 19.
A native of Castle Pines, Colorado, Tinney has been a catalyst for the Notre Dame baseball program as the Irish have won 16 of their last 19 games heading into the ACC Tournament. He boasts a .351 batting average, .500 on-base percentage, a .766 slugging percentage, and a 1.266 OPS. He has 54 hits through 47 games played with 51 runs scored, 13 doubles, 33 walks, and 53 RBI. His 17 home runs thus far in the 2025 season put him in a tie for sixth all-time in Notre Dame history for homers in a single season.
Since April 15, Tinney has hit .448 with a .570 on-base percentage and a 1.090 slugging percentage for a 1.660 OPS. Over that span, he has amassed 30 hits, 34 runs, seven doubles, 12 home runs, 27 RBI, and 14 walks.
He ranks 19th in slugging percentage, 28th in home runs per game, and 36th in on-base percentage among all NCAA DI baseball players as of May 18. Additionally, he ranks first in slugging percentage, tied for second in on-base percentage, and tied for sixth in home runs per game among catchers listed in the latest NCAA statistical rankings.
Tinney is one of 13 semifinalists for the 2025 Buster Posey Award. The three finalists for the award will be announced on June 5.
