Gone
The transfer portal reopened on Tuesday and only one Notre Dame football player made a jump to leave, and that was punter Bryce McFerson.

McFerson was Notre Dame’s starting punter last season. The North Carolina native averaged 45.1 yards per punt in 2023. Bryce only punted the ball 38 times, so he did not qualify for national rankings — but he was excellent.
Notre Dame’s likely punter in 2024 will be Eric Goins. The 6’2” 210 pounder from Virginia joined the Irish this spring as a preferred walk-on after taking an uncommon path to get there. Goins attended The Citadel after graduating high school in 2012. After the 2015 season, Goins went into the Army as an active-duty officer for 7 years. He has one year of eligibility remaining, and some back chatter is that Goins is really booting the ball well.
McFerson will likely not be the last one to jump into the transfer portal before the 2024 season. The Irish are still two players over the 85 man limit — and may be in the market for more in the portal.
