Each golf squad for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish competed in stroke play in last weekend’s ACC tournament, and the results were mixed, sometimes a bit disappointing, but largely in line with what we saw all season. Teams and certain individuals now look to their postseason fates, while others put a wrap on the season and look to train for next year. Let’s get into it.
Notre Dame Men’s Golf
The men’s squad finished seventh at the ACC tournament at +9 as a team, led by freshman Jacob Modleski at -1 for the weekend (good for 11th overall in stroke play). Results were somewhat disappointing for graduate student Palmer Jackson, who came in as Notre Dame’s #1 and had paced the team all season long, but finished the weekend at +3. On the flip side, Angelo Marcon (+1) turned in a better performance than expected.
Overall, the Irish were well behind the sixth-place Duke Blue Devils (+2), whose archrival North Carolina Tar Heels led the field at -10. The Tar Heels then took home the crown in match play on the 22nd.

Overall these results were not as good as what Notre Dame hoped for (Coach John Handrigan allowed that the Irish “didn’t play to our standard” while still commending their effort), and if selections for the NCAA tournament were made today using the national golf ranking system, the Irish would be the first team out. The team and individual Irish golfers will await potential placements when the selection committee makes its decision on May 1.
Notre Dame Women’s Golf
The Irish ladies had a tough weekend, finishing dead last among ACC competitors at +26 – nine strokes behind the Boston College Eagles and Louisville Cardinals, who tied for 10th place. Graduate student Lauren Beaudreau, the #1 player for the Irish all season, finished at +1 while her senior teammate Chloe Schiavone bested her at -1.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons demolished the competition in stroke play at -23, besting the Clemson Tigers by 7 strokes, and were declared the champions in match play after leading in three matches before the event was called due to darkness.
While the Irish were left out of the women’s NCAA tournament as a team, Beaudreau was selected to compete as an individual and will head to East Lansing to compete in the regional tournament on May 6.
