From the ND press release:
Breanna Jenco Named Next Notre Dame Women’s Golf Head Coach
Arrives in South Bend after Xavier’s most successful decade in program history
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A new voice is ready to lead the Fighting Irish women’s golf program into a new era. On Wednesday afternoon, Notre Dame Director of Golf John Handrigan announced the addition of Breanna Jenco as the next head women’s golf coach.
A six-time Big East Coach of the Year, Jenco arrives in South Bend after arguably the greatest and most successful stretch in Xavier women’s golf history.
“I am humbled and honored to be named the next head women’s golf coach of Notre Dame,” Jenco explained. “I want to thank Pete Bevacqua, Nick Siergiej and John Handrigan for this amazing opportunity. I am looking forward to representing such a prestigious university. Through the interview process it became clear that Notre Dame operates under values that I cherish in my own life. They prioritize both academics and sports while providing the resources necessary to be competitive and successful with both.
“The high academic degrees, elite network of alumni, first-class facilities and competitive resources will allow us to attract the best players. I am grateful to Xavier and everyone there for allowing me to learn and grow as a coach. I am excited to work hard to continue to build the Fighting Irish into a program that competes for ACC and NCAA titles! Go Irish!”
Jenco graduated from Xavier in 2013 after a successful four-year playing career. She was a four-time National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar (2010-13) and earned the Thomas E. Sedler Award, which goes to a Xavier senior student-athlete who best demonstrated hard work and enthusiasm during their career at Xavier. Soon after, she received her master’s degree from Akron in 2015, where she also served as a graduate assistant with the Zips women’s golf program.
Jenco then jumped right into her first head coaching position, linking back up with her alma mater, Xavier, in 2015. After building a successful culture and foundation, Jenco turned Xavier into the face of Big East women’s golf and a constant NCAA Regional contender.
Case in point, Jenco led the Musketeers to six straight Big East championships, with the 2019 title being the first in program history. After claiming their most recent championship in 2025, Jenco solidified her historic run, becoming the first program in Big East history to claim at least six conference titles.
Thus, the Musketeers have also qualified for six consecutive NCAA Regional appearances, with their 2019 NCAA appearance being the first in program history as well.
In recognition of her sustained success, Jenco has been named Big East Coach of the Year an incredible six times (2016, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2025).
With sustained team success comes great individual development as well. Overall, she has mentored 14 All-Big East selections who have won a combined 26 All-Big East awards. Two of whom, Kara Carter and Mikayla Fitzpatrick, achieved the honor all four years. Speaking of Fitzpatrick, she became the program’s first NCAA National Championship participant in 2019.
All-in-all, two student-athletes earned Big East Golfer of the Year honors, with three golfers collecting the Big East Freshman of the Year award.
Jenco not only got results on the links but in the classroom as well. The Musketeers have had numerous WGCA All-American Scholars, most recently having five golfers earn the honors in 2024.
“Coach Jenco has proven to be elite with six straight Big East Championship wins and six Big East Coach of the Year awards,” Handrigan stated. “Breanna knows what it takes to transcend ND Golf to a championship level and I’m thankful to have her lead our program. Not only is Breanna a top coach, but she embodies our Notre Dame values and will be a great representative of our University.
“I’m excited to welcome Breanna, her husband Joey and two children to the Notre Dame family.”
