Top 5 Most Annoying Fan Bases In College Football (1:08)

The biggest upset of the young college football season just occurred in Indiana.

Northern Illinois, who were four touchdown underdogs, went into Notre Dame Stadium and shocked the fifth-ranked Fighting Irish 16-14 to earn their first win over a top 10 team in program history.

Trailing 14-13 with six minutes remaining, Northern Illinois defensive back Amariyun Knighten intercepted ND quarterback Riley Leonard and returned the pick to midfield to set the Huskies up.

Eleven plays and 31 yards later, NIU kicker Kanon Woodill converted a 35-yard field goal with 31 seconds remaining to put his team ahead for good.

Northern Illinois blocked a 62-yard game-winning field goal attempt by Mitch Jeter as time expired to seal the win. It was the second blocked field goal of the game for the Huskies.

Notre Dame, which was coming off a win over Texas A&M at College Station, took a 7-0 lead on its first drive of the game and looked primed to go for the kill early after NIU downed the ensuing kickoff at its own two-yard line.

But moments later, quarterback Ethan Hampton connected with running back Antario Brown on an 83-yard touchdown to tie the game. The Huskies kicked field goals in the first and second quarters to take a 13-7 lead into halftime.

Notre Dame took a 14-13 lead on a scintillating touchdown run by Jeremiyah Love, in which he hurdled a defender and kept running to paydirt. Despite their struggles all day long, the Irish appeared poised to escape when they had a 2nd-and-1 near midfield with some momentum and just over six minutes left on the clock.

But then Leonard threw his second interception of the day, handing Northern Illinois the opportunity it needed to seize history.
