Barcelona are reportedly close to agreeing a contract extension with central midfielder Sergi Roberto. According to Fabrizio Romano, talks between both parties are at the final stages, with an official announcement expected in the coming days.
With the summer transfer window approaching, the Spanish club have also displayed an interest in bringing Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso to the Nou Camp. The Spain international has impressed at Stamford Bridge in the absence of the injured Ben Chilwell this season, but is thought to be keen on a move back to his home country.

Having progressed through the club’s youth system and become a first-team player in 2013, Sergi Roberto is approaching a decade as an established senior player for Barcelona.
The 30-year-old is now set to reach that landmark, with talks over a one-year contract extension progressing well and without any issues between the player’s representatives and the club.
Roberto’s current deal is set to expire in two months’ time, but an extension is now close to being fully agreed and signed by the player. Once the midfielder – capped eleven times by the Spanish national team – puts pen to paper, his new deal will keep him at Barcelona until June 2023.
Barcelona to Consider Marcos Alonso as Left-Back Option
Having finished a considerable distance behind Real Madrid as expected in this season’s La Liga title race, Barcelona are ramping up their plans for the following campaign in order to continue their resurgence under club legend Xavi’s management.
With club stalwart Jordi Alba approaching the latter stages of his career, the Catalans are in the market for a new left-back, and Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso has emerged as a possibility the club are considering.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano describes Alonso as a “serious candidate” that Barcelona are looking at, and a deal would appear within the realms of possibility given that the player’s preference is to return to Spain this summer if the opportunity presents itself.
To date, Alonso, who has also played for Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland in England, has made 207 Chelsea appearances following his transfer from Fiorentina in 2016.
