Four-star prospect Kobe Edwards emerges at EYBL Session 3, updates recruitment

June 10, 2025 by Zags Blog

KANSAS CITY, KS — A true point guard is harder to come by than some might think in the modern game, but that’s exactly the type of player four-star prospect Kobe Edwards looks to be when he steps on the court.

“Definitely a pass-first point guard that can score at any time,” Edwards told ZAGSBLOG.

Make no mistake about it, the 6-foot-1 guard can certainly put the ball in the basket. He has averaged 13.6 points, 3.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game for team Boo Williams in the Nike EYBL circuit so far. But he really took his game to another level at Session 3 in KC, scoring 20+ points on three occasions including a 28-point outing vs. Houston Hoops.

Edwards comes from a family of hoopers; his father, Rod Edwards, played for Wichita State while his brother Nik Edwards plays Division III ball for Roanoke College. Now, Kobe is looking to carve his own space at the college level.

The four-star guard has received offers from App State, Arizona State, Georgia, Georgetown, Illinois, LSU, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech, among others. During his high school season at Greenfield High School (NC), Edwards received a visit from Virginia Tech, the only campus he’s visited himself. He has no current plans for any other visits as of now.

Here’s how Edwards broke down some of the schools in contact:

Virginia Tech: “I went on a visit there not too long ago. It was a great visit, felt like home. The coaches are cool. They showed me the strength and conditioning coach. Talked to him for about 30 minutes and he was great.” Assistant coach J.D. Byers has been the main coach in contact with Edwards.

Mississippi State: “I haven’t visited them, but I have just been keeping in contact with them.”

Illinois: “Every now and then, nothing crazy. We just talk every now and then. I haven’t been up there yet.”

Edwards is the No. 94-ranked player in the 2026 class. His favorite NBA player is Kevin Durant, his pregame hype song is Frozen by Lil Baby and his favorite hobby outside of basketball is fishing.
