Will Riley, the five-star wing from the Phelps School (PA), has committed to Illinois and will reclassify to the Class of 2024 from ’25, his high school coach told ZAGSBLOG.
“Yes, 2024,” said Trey Morin of the Phelps School (PA).
The 6-foot-8 Canadian chose Illinois over Alabama, Arizona, Kentucky and the New Zealand Breakers of the NBL on his list. He announced his decision around family and friends at RIM Park in Waterloo, Ontario.
“Will is one of the most versatile scorers in high school. He can score from all three levels, and create shots for others and himself,’ Morin said.
“As his game matures and his frame improves, he will be one of the more lethal offensive players in the Big 10.”
It is common for Canadian players to reclass since their educational calendar is different than those in the U.S.
“He’s going to start workout with them [Illinois] in July,” his mom said during the commitment.
Riley has had a huge spring EYBL season, averaging 21.9 points per game for UPlay Canada, which is good for sixth on the circuit. He was named the MVP of the 2024 Basketball Without Borders Global Camp in Noblesville, Indiana, in February.
The news comes in wake of former Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua returning to Illinois as an assistant.
