Vancouver Canucks Acquire Forward from Chicago Blackhawks

October 25, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks made a deal on Friday. News emerged that the Canucks have picked up Lukas Reichel via trade from the Blackhawks. Vancouver sent a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.

Blackhawks trade former first-round pick Lukas Reichel to Vancouver for… well, not a heck of a lot. Quick thoughts from me and @thomasdrance.bsky.social:www.nytimes.com/athletic/674…

Vancouver Canucks Make Lukas Reichel Trade with Chicago Blackhawks

Reichel has only played for the Blackhawks across parts of five NHL seasons. The 23-year-old has two goals and two assists for four points in five games this season. He has been averaging nine minutes and 52 seconds of ice time. This is considerably down from his normal average of over 13:21 per game.

The Nurnberg, Germany native has 22 goals and 36 assists for 58 points in 174 career games. Chicago originally drafted him in the first round, 17th overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft. His best offensive season was when he got eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points in 70 games.

Reichel has also represented his native Germany on several occasions. He was part of the German squad in the 2020 IIHF World Juniors. The young forward has also been on the senior roster at the 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025 World Championships. He’s already been named to the Germany roster for the upcoming 2026 Olympics.

What It Means

Reichel has been the subject of trade rumours over the last few months. However, the Blackhawks have finally pulled the trigger on a deal.

Vancouver has been seeking scoring help, and Reichel is an intriguing young player. He’s not scored double-digit goals as of yet. However, there’s hope that he’ll finally increase those numbers with increased ice time.

The Canucks enter Saturday’s matchup with the Montreal Canadiens averaging 2.63 goals scored per game. That number is tied for 25th in the league so far this season.

Reichel’s four points are good enough for being tied for third in points on the Canucks this campaign. He’s been itching for more ice time, and he’ll certainly get that chance in Vancouver.
