Goalie Arvid Söderblom and the Chicago Blackhawks agreed to a two-year, $5.5 million contract, the team announced Saturday.
The deal means Söderblom, who will turn 26 on Aug. 19, avoids salary arbitration. He was a restricted free agent coming off a two-year, $1.925 million deal.
A native of Göteborg, Sweden, Söderblom began the last two seasons as the backup to Petr Mrázek. The Hawks dealt Mrázek to the Detroit Red Wings at the trade deadline in March just days after acquiring goalie Spencer Knight from the Florida Panthers as part of a package for defenseman Seth Jones.
Söderblom led Hawks goalies with 36 games played last season, and he and Knight tied for the team lead with 33 starts. Söderblom finished with a 10-18-7 record, 3.18 GAA and .898 save percentage. He likely will back up Knight in 2025-26.
Söderblom has been with the Hawks organization since signing as an undrafted free agent in May 2021, playing in 86 games with 77 starts over four seasons and compiling a 17-52-11 record, 3.55 goals-against average and .889 save percentage.
