Centre Max Domi Traded by the Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks traded Max Domi and Dylan Wells to the Stars in exchange for Anton Khudobin and a 2025 second-round pick. In the offseason, Chicago signed Domi to a one-year, $3 million contract. Domi spent last season playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes. In 48 games this year, Domi exceeded his goals scored during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. He also almost tied last season’s total points in that time frame. Given the Blackhawks place in the standings, it made sense for them to move Domi while they look to rebuild since he is an unrestricted free agent after this season.

What it Means
Max Domi has performed well for an otherwise struggling Chicago Blackhawks team this season. Domi has consistently spent most of the season as a top points producer on the team. He is a fast, playmaking forward that will work hard down low to generate offense. Playing with an edge, Domi brings some energy and grit with his skill set.
While Domi is typically a centre, he can also be slotted on the wing to provide versatility. Playing in a top-six role for the Blackhawks, Domi should be a solid depth scoring option that can play up and down the lineup. He can contribute on the power play as well. Even though not a high-profile player such as Bo Horvat, if Domi can keep producing at the pace he has this season, it could be a solid pickup for the Stars.
On the Blackhawks side, this move was likely somewhat anticipated when they signed Domi to a one-year deal. Even though he may not have garnered the attention all season that Patrick Kane or Jonathan Toews were receiving, moving Domi plays a role in the rebuilding that the Blackhawks are looking to achieve.
