Nick Foligno Contract Signed by Chicago

Folgino came over to the Blackhawks on the back on the Taylor Hall trade that happened on Monday. The pending unrestricted free agent has played with the Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs and Bruins over his 16-year NHL career. Foligno scored 10 goals and got 26 points in 26 games with Boston last season. The Buffalo native had a Corsi for of 50.9 and a relative Corsi of -0.2.

He has 215 goals and 310 assists for 525 points in 1,081 career games. Ottawa drafted Foligno in the first round, 28th overall of the 2006 NHL Draft.  Foligno has also suited up in 68 career postseason games, registering 27 points with 10 goals and 17 assists.

The NHL veteran is the brother of Marcus Foligno and the son of Mike Foligno. He won the King Clancy Trophy and the Mark Messier Award in 2016-17 with the Blue Jackets. Foligno is a one-time NHL All-Star after playing in the 2015 edition.

Impact of Nick Foligno Contract

The Blackhawks are going to be in the middle of a long rebuild. Chicago will get to select Connor Bedard with the top overall pick in the upcoming draft. However, the team is going to need to rely on some veterans in order to help the youngsters in the locker room.

Foligno is a solid veteran that is going to do whatever you ask him to do to win. The 35-year-old may be in the final years of his career, but he can be a help to a growing team. He’s a good short-term option for a rebuilding team.
