“Blackhawks goaltender Laurent Brossoit underwent successful meniscus surgery on his right knee on Tuesday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. We expect him to make a full recovery and return in 5-7 weeks.”

Brossoit’s Blackhawk Debut Delayed

The time frame for his return ranges from the end of the preseason and the early days of the regular season. Chicago will likely prepare to start its season without one of their multiple off-season additions. Petr Mrazek will likely start with Arvid Söderblom filling in as the backup.

When Brossoit does return, he will bring experience to the locker room. Brossoit is a 10-year veteran and is coming off a 2.00 goals against average and a .927 save percentage last year. Furthermore, Brossoit won a Stanley Cup in 2023 with the Vegas Golden Knights.

For his career, Brossoit is 64-46-13 with a 2.64 GAA and a .911 SV%. He will enter his 11th NHL season. When suits up the first time in the red sweater, he will have played for his fourth different team.

Better Now Than Later

There is never a good time for an injury to occur, especially one that requires surgery. However, the positives for Brossoit and the Blackhawks is he may only end up missing a few games. Surgery in August is certainly better than surgery in December or January. In addition, the Blackhawks have a veteran in Mrazek who can fill in between the pipes in the meantime.
