Making their final pick of the second round, the Bears finally took a defensive player.
The Chicago Bears made their third second-round pick of the night at number 62 overall.
Following the trade down with the Buffalo Bills, the Bears picked up an extra second-rounder, not far off their 56th selection.
After starting with three offensive players, the Bears addressed the other side of the ball. They added to the defensive line with Texas A&M defensive tackle Shemar Turner.
Here is the social reaction to the pick.
#Bears are choosing Texas DT Shemar Turner with the 62nd overall pick in Round 2. Very nice addition to the middle of the defensive line. Dennis Allen finally gets in on the action.

Turner may slipped due to a stress fracture that was discovered during the Senior Bowl. Here’s Rap Sheet from January:
Texas A&M DL Shemar Turner, a likely Top 50 pick, had to pull out of the Senior Bowl after learning that a stress fracture from camp, that needed a rod inserted into it, never fully healed, sources say.

Bears go tackle but I guess he’s gonna play nose? I didn’t see him as someone that can hold the point, compete against double teams, oh and was wildly undisciplined in the tape I watched of him. A few personal fouls

Yeah I don’t get it but Dennis Allen needs to. Hope it works out

Shemar Turner has a decent skillet, but multiple coaching staffs have had issues with him committing penalties. This was the most egregious in 2023 pic.twitter.com/z1XJDRLYhG

While that wasn’t the best for this pick, here is someone with some positives.
Shemar Turner is a BEAST.
6’3, 290
– High motor
– Explosive
– Incredibly quick first step
– Elite run against the runGreat pick. pic.twitter.com/w76vEiTI2i

I don’t really see Zacch Pickens hanging onto the Bears roster

New Bears’ defender Shemar Turner was compared to Nnamdi Madubuike on https://t.co/hbgXr1Ys0X.
I’ll gladly take that from him!

This is for sure the most polarizing pick of the Bears’ selections. Certainly of Friday night, I think there was some similar polarization about Loveland.
Here’s @dpbrugler on new Bears DT Shemar Turner: “Turner needs to introduce more discipline to his play style, but he prides himself on being the aggressor and relies on his initial twitch, fierce hands and combative mentality to be a factor.”

Turner did have 7 personal foul penalties over the past two seasons. Had 5.5 TFL and 2 sacks last year after 10.5 TFL and 6 sacks in 2023.

Our own Jacob Infante started a nice thread for those looking for more information on Turner.
THREAD: The #Bears just added a future quality starter to their defensive line in Texas A&M DT Shemar Turner.

Shemar Turner is about as versatile as they come. He’s 1 of only 5 FBS players with 200+ snaps at all 5 possible DL positions over the last 4 years (right/left DE, right/left DT and nose tackle).

I need to look into Shemar Turner more but picking him in front of Darius Alexander is a choice.

What do you think of the pick? Risky or are you trusting the staff on this one too? Sound off in the comments.
