The first pick for the Chicago Bears is in. Here is how it went over on social media
The Chicago Bears got on the clock for their first-round pick Thursday.
After so much anticipation and rumors of a trade, none materialized for Chicago.
After the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up with the Cleveland Browns and the Browns took Mason Graham at No. 5, it appeared that Chicago wouldn’t be able to jump ahead of Las Vegas.
Sure enough, the Las Vegas Raiders took Ashton Jeanty at the No. 6 spot.
So, who would be the options for the Bears?
The social chatter started to build for a trade back for the Bears.
But the Bears stayed put and made the pick.
Michigan tight end Colston Loveland.
Yeah, over Tyler Warren. Surprising to say the least.
You Love to see it

The #Bears take Michigan TE Colston Loveland.
Some might be surprised they take Loveland over Tyler Warren. But he’s a much better complement to Cole Kmet.

The #Bears are taking Michigan TE Colston Loveland at No. 10, as he joins Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson. pic.twitter.com/S244fYb4HV

It’s a tight end, but not Tyler Warren.
Bears complement Cole Kmet with the Michigan tight end, who is the highest TE drafted by the Bears since Da Coach Mike Ditka in 1961! https://t.co/NMITgNItmr— Josh Frydman (@Josh_Frydman) April 25, 2025
Not everyone was loving it though.
He’ll end up as the third best TE in this draft class. After Warren and Fannin… this is a joke franchise

Uhhh… nah. Not loving this.

Warren was the better pick. As always. We will see. pic.twitter.com/L5CmxCyCzo

Hey remember when Poles picked Darnell Wright instead of Jalen Carter and everyone was like ‘yeah well GM knows best and Carter probably has character issues’ yeah how’d that judgment work out?!
Fucking GM who has missed more than he’s hit outthinking himself
But there is a lot to like here. Truly!
He’s a true Y tight end to go with Cole Kmet, who plays the X. Can’t block the way Tyler Warren can, but intriguing pass-catcher.

The #Bears take my TE1 Colston Loveland. I’ll take it. https://t.co/ng3eM9xRsq

Bears select TE Colston Loveland with the No. 10 overall pick.
• Set Michigan’s single-season record for catches by a tight end (56) in 2024
• Ranked top-5 in yards per route run among TEs in each of the past two seasons, per @ PFF (min. 25 targets)— NFL NEWS (@fantasynflnews.bsky.social) 2025-04-25T01:18:19.798Z
They add not just a tight end but an offensive weapon. Loveland can be used in a variety of ways by Ben Johnson, who leaned heavily into 2 TE formations in Detroit.

Ben Johnson’s 2 tight end sets are going to be sick

If the Bears sit at 10 with no Ashton Jeanty on the board…give me Colston Loveland to run 12 personnel with Cole Kmet. And I’d take him over Tyler Warren.
Better mover. Better blocker. Better route-runner.

Loveland has long reminded me of a taller Sam LaPorta
this was a great fit for Ben Johnson

Overall, an interesting selection, but given the players who went off the board before their pick, it’s hard to be too upset with it. Unless you were all-in on Tyler Warren there isn’t much to be upset about.
For what it’s worth, it seems that most analysts had Loveland and Warren very close. And Loveland’s comp is Sam LaPorta, whom Ben Johnson obviously has history with.
What are your thoughts on the pick?
