The Cleveland Browns lost rookie running back Quinshon Judkins to a gruesome leg/knee injury against the Buffalo Bills, which means one of the team’s backup running backs could win you a fantasy football championship. Judkins is down for the count and, while he’s clearly the best back on the roster, other players have proven capable of handling starting duties in his absence.
Who Will Be Browns Starting RB After The Quinshon Judkins Injury
If the depth chart remains the same in Week 17 as it was in Week 16, then find a way to get Raheim Sanders on your fantasy football team after the Quinshon Judkins injury. The rookie became the clear lead back with Judkins sidelined, finishing the night with 11 carries for 42 yards. No other Browns running back received more than three carries.
Unfortunately, Sanders does not appear to be a three-down back. Cleveland used Trayveon Williams as its primary third-down back, and he ended the game with four receptions for 38 yards. Neither player is a superstar by any stretch of the imagination, and you won’t want to start either in fantasy unless you have a lot of available starting spots. However, both players should receive enough touches to be low-end flex plays, assuming fourth-round rookie Dylan Sampson cannot play next week.
The Dylan Sampson Factor
Dylan Sampson missed last week with a hand injury, but he’ll be the clear lead back if he can play next week. As of this posting, it’s too early to know whether or not he’ll suit up against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the penultimate game of the season. However, early signs suggest he will return, and he could put up some decent numbers with Quinshon Judkins sidelined to injury.
Judkins missed Week 1, and Sampson was Cleveland’s go-to back. During the season opener, the rookie began his career by taking 12 carries for 29 yards and eight receptions for 64 yards. Again, not superstar numbers, but he’s clearly the number two in this offense.
Dylan Sampson won’t receive 100% of the touches as Quinshon Judkins battles his injury, but he will be the first man up. The first rule in fantasy football is to chase volume and hope efficiency follows, and Sampson could give you flex-level production if you’re in a pinch.
