The Chicago Bears took a swing at another potential franchise quarterback in Justin Fields when they traded up to select him with the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. But unlike any quarterback drafted before him, this one felt different. This felt like the start of something special.
Chicago has received glowing reviews for their draft class, namely trading up for Fields, who is already arguably the most talented quarterback talent this franchise has seen. Now, it’s about putting him in the best chance to succeed and end a decades-long quarterbacks curse.
The Ohio State football Twitter account shared a video chronicling Fields’ draft night, from the phone call with Matt Nagy to the moment he was drafted. One of the things people were complaining about was that Fields didn’t appear excited when he was drafted by the Bears. But that’s just because he’s cool, calm and collected — and he’s ready to get to work. He’s everything you could want in your franchise quarterback.
“I’m ready to work. That’s it,” he said. “I’m ready to work. I don’t need to talk much. There’s been too much talking lately. I’m just ready to work — that’s it.”
A night @justnfields will never forget…

While we might have to wait a little bit to see Fields’ debut on the field — as GM Ryan Pace insists that Andy Dalton will get the starting nod this season while they develop Fields — Bears fans will be waited with baited breath for the moment Fields inevitably proves to the coaching staff that he’s the best option at quarterback, which shouldn’t take long at all.
