This Browns Weapon Could See His Role Increased Even More

December 7, 2023 by Last Word On Pro Football

Elijah Moore Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns fell to 7-5 on the year as they lost their second straight game in a 36-19 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams. The loss was tough top swallow, but there were some good signs including wide receiver Elijah Moore.

More of Moore; Wide Receiver Elijah Moore Will Be Leaned Upon

With two straight road losses with the season starting to head towards the finish line, the Browns will look to return home and get back on track. If they want to do that, wide receiver Elijah Moore will be part of the reason they do. With wide receiver Amari Cooper getting injured for the second straight week, Moore will be called upon more.

While on the topic of injuries, the Browns also lost their backup quarterback to an injury and have their top two options out. They signed NFL-veteran and former Superbowl MVP Joe Flacco to the practice squad and shortly after ended up starting for the Browns.

He found wide receiver Elija Moore for a team-high 83 receiving yards. He had that on just four catches, with a long catch of 42. The more impressive number when talking about Moore’s potential is the 12 targets he had.

The success rate when being thrown to was not up to par with just a third of his targets being caught. However, Moore was targeted twice as much as others, and when the throw was accurate he made some plays. With the number one wideout for the Browns consistently banged up, Moore should see increases in every receiving statistic.

Young Veteran

In a room that features Amari Cooper and some young options, wide receiver Moore is one of the older guys in the room. Although he is just 23, he has a rookie and a second-year wideout behind him. These guys can learn from some of the things Moore has found success doing.

The third-year from Ole Miss has 47 catches on the year for 501 receiving yards but just one touchdown. He has proven to be a team player this year. Aiming for short gains and doing whatever he needs to move the ball down the field. He has already earned his career-high in receptions after spending two years with the New York Jets.

His two seasons with them involved up-and-down play. It also indicated wide receiver Elijah Moore could make an impact in the league. He is 37 yards away from tying his production in his rookie year and should hit that in his next outing.

Wide receiver Elijah Moore has played just one game with Flacco as a Brown. However, he spent some time with him last year on the Jets. The chemistry is undeniable, and the one game with Flacco this year helped Moore set his season-high in targets by three. He earned his season-high in targets, receiving yards, and longest reception.

If Flacco and Moore can gain some consistent play, this can take pressure off the run game. With young wideouts and backs filling in with injuries, the young veteran Moore will hope to provide some stability for the unit.
