Derek Carr shockingly retired from the NFL due to his shoulder injury. The Saints quarterback room now consists of Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener. Shough was drafted with the 40th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, while Rattler and Haener went a combined 0-7 when they started last season. Shough is in a great position to be the Week 1 starter for the Saints in 2025, so what does this mean for his dynasty outlook?

Dynasty Outlook for Tyler Shough
Current Production
Shough had a long college career, spending seven seasons in school. He played three seasons for Oregon, three for Texas Tech, and spent his final year at Louisville. He dealt with many injuries in his career, allowing him to get extra years of eligibility. Before his final season at Louisville, he never played more than seven games in a season. He closed out his career playing in 12 games for the Cardinals, throwing for 3195 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Shough Dynasty Price
According to KeepTradeCut, a website that crowdsources dynasty values from players who use the site, Shough is the QB31. He was outside the top 50 quarterbacks before the NFL Draft, but he skyrocketed due to his landing spot. I expect his ranking to increase even more with the news that Carr retired. Shough is currently ranked below Geno Smith, Jalen Milroe, and Matthew Stafford, while ahead of Shedeur Sanders, Will Howard, and Daniel Jones. He is currently being drafted in the late second round or early third round in 2025 dynasty rookie drafts, but expect his ADP to rise in the coming weeks.
Tyler Shough Dynasty Outlook
Shough is a 25-year-old rookie quarterback, but he is in a great position to be the Saints Week 1 starter. As mentioned earlier, Rattler and Haener went 0-7 last season. Shough will get his chance to start, even if it is not in Week 1. The Saints took him in the second round, over Shedeur Sanders. They believe in Shough, and they will want to give him a chance. The other concern is if Aaron Rodgers comes to the Saints, which is probably unlikely due to salary cap concerns in New Orleans.
Following Derek Carr’s retirement and Ben DiNucci’s release, the Saints’ updated QB room:
Jake Haener (drafted in 2023)
Spencer Rattler (drafted in 2024)
Tyler Shough (drafted in 2025)Haener and Rattler combined to go 0-7 in starts for New Orleans in 2024.

Shough has decent weapons to throw to, including Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. Olave has dealt with many concussions in the past, but he should be fully healthy entering 2025. Shaheed is a great deep threat. Additionally, Alvin Kamara is a great pass-catching running back, and Taysom Hill is a do-it-all tight end. Expect Hill to take some more snaps at quarterback next season.
Shough is never going to be a great quarterback. However, he has plenty of experience and can be a good game manager for the Saints. He’s probably never going to be a top-15 fantasy quarterback, but he can provide some value in Superflex leagues as a low-end QB2.

Should You Draft Tyler Shough in Dynasty Leagues?
This answer depends on how deep your dynasty league is. Shough is a starting quarterback in the NFL, so in deeper Superflex leagues, he should be drafted. However, in one-quarterback leagues, Shough should be avoided. That being said, Shough is only one of two rookie quarterbacks who will be starting early in 2025 (Cam Ward is the other). That will drive the price up for Shough. If you need a quarterback, Shough is worth taking a shot on in the second round of the rookie drafts, especially if you need a quarterback to start in 2025. Tyler Shough has an interesting dynasty outlook, but he definitely has some value for the near future.
