Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles was one of several people who was laughing at the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night.
Poles was asked about the Falcons taking Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick and he let out a small chuckle before admitting that everything worked out for his team.
“I’m just happy it worked out that way,” Poles said.
The Falcons had the chance to take wide receiver Rome Odunze to help quarterback Kirk Cousins but decided to go with Penix Jr. That allowed the Bears to swoop in and take Odunze with the ninth overall pick.
He’ll now be a top playmaker in the Bears’ offense and be a target for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Williams was taken by the Bears with the top pick in the draft.
Outside of Odunze, the Bears also have Keenan Allen and D.J. Moore at wide receiver along with D’Andre Swift and Khalil Herbert as a great one-two punch at running back.

The Bears are shaping up to have a fun offense this upcoming season, especially if Williams can have a strong rookie season.
