Report: Patriots Wide Receiver Could Be a Cut Candidate?

June 15, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After a busy offseason, the New England Patriots will look to reshape the entire wide receiver depth as JaLynn Polk could be a cut candidate. According to a report, the source predicts Polk could be on the roster bubble since the Patriots already have too many wideouts on the roster after signing Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins to salvage the unit under new head coach Mike Vrabel. The new coach wasn’t around when they drafted Polk, so it makes sense why the Patriots could move on so early from the wide receiver and pursue their focus on the starting contributors that they have among Diggs, Hollins and Kendrick Bourne.

They could keep two more receivers on the depth chart, but they might be better off releasing some of them. Originally selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the former Texas Tech and Washington product is left in a vulnerable position as he couldn’t get much production in his rookie season, recording just 12 yards for a catch. He will likely compete for the last starting spot on the roster before the 2025 regular season during the preseason, but the chances of him making it are slim since others like Javon Baker and Kayshon Boutte are fighting for an opportunity. Polk hasn’t done much more than them last season, so these five teams may sign him for a fresh opportunity this season if he becomes a free agent.

Possible Next Teams

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have the financial means to get someone like Polk into their offensive system. The team needs more development in the background while CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Jonathan Mingo and Jalen Tolbert will eat up most of the snaps. Perhaps, they could use Polk in a situational moment when he’s ready, especially if Tolbert decides to depart in next year’s free agency.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Ravens should be doing the same since, after signing DeAndre Hopkins, he doesn’t have a ton of years in the tank. Polk won’t be taking any playing time from Zay Flowers or Rashod Bateman, but he does have the same potential as them. Quarterback Lamar Jackson has an excellent arm and could probably bring some life out of Polk.

Kansas City Chiefs

If anyone can bring out explosiveness out of Polk, it’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes. There’s a reason why they got Tyquan Thornton last season, so they can produce more talent. No one will expect Polk to start behind Rashee Rice or Xavier Worthy, but he could have a chance to impress scouts to get some type of opportunity, especially since Marquise Brown is only signed on a one-year contract.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are still in dire need of a proven wideout. They might have to wait a little bit before Polk develops, but if they’re patient enough, he could be a reliable slot receiver alongside 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey. Even though they need more deep threats in this offense, where Mike Williams and Quentin Johnston need help, quarterback Justin Herbert could continue thriving in throwing the ball in short passes in slant routes.

New Orleans Saints

However, the Saints need some homegrown talent in their offense since general manager Mickey Loomis will have no other choice but to finally rebuild this entire team from scratch. Veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks is past his prime and won’t be a long-term threat part of this offense.  The Saints are better off elevating Polk into the starting spot as a WR4 and developing behind Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and Cooks.
