Report: Cowboys Could Target Top 2026 Bears Free Agent

December 12, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

While the NFL offseason is still months away, it’s never a bad time to talk about the future, as the Dallas Cowboys could target the Chicago Bears’ impending free agent Jaquan Brisker in March. According to a report, the Cowboys are predicted to target Brisker to salvage their secondary, which has been one of the worst for this Dallas defense. Since veteran Kevin Byard and other Bears safeties, including Elijah Hicks and Jonathan Owens all hitting free agency, it’s unlikely that Chicago will prioritize Brisker to a new deal once his rookie contract expires after the 2025 season. Despite Brisker’s injury woes, the safety should be an intriguing option for several teams given his age and potential, as he probably won’t demand a very high-end deal.

Report: Cowboys Could Target Top 2026 Bears Free Agent Jaquan Brisker

It’s easy to see why Dallas would take a chance on Brisker this upcoming offseason. There have been rumors that the Cowboys could let current starting safety Donovan Wilson walk in free agency, which means that if he does depart, then that would leave a void in their unit. After extending backup Markquese Bell over Wilson, the door was already closed on the possibility of Wilson returning. Either way, the Cowboys would need to address the secondary woes this free agency, but signing Brisker to reunite with defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus in terms of chemistry would make sense.

This is, of course, if the Cowboys decide to keep him as the remaining coach for the Cowboys’ defense, which has been one of the worst since Dan Quinn joined Washington. Dallas got a spark in their defense before the trade deadline, trading for Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson, but adding someone like Brisker could give the Cowboys more relief. Originally selected as a second-round pick, the former Penn State product should have a market either way, and these other teams should be interested.

Other Possible Suitors

Carolina Panthers

This past offseason, the Carolina Panthers dramatically improved their defense, signing Tre’von Moehrig and Tershawn Wharton. However, the Panthers are far from done, as Carolina will likely continue to improve the secondary unit. With Moehrig in the lineup, the Panthers should find another capable safety, and Brisker could be a solid fit for the team. Carolina finds themselves close to a postseason appearance if they win out the rest of their 2025 matchups, but the future is bright for the organization.

Quarterback Bryce Young is showing signs of life with a receiver core group of rookie receiver, Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker, stepping up in the aerial attack. Despite that, defense does win championships, and the Panthers should continue their focus on that unit by signing Brisker.

Kansas City Chiefs

Meanwhile, the Chiefs don’t have the financial means to afford Brisker, but anything is possible by restructuring and trading a few star players. This means the Chiefs are rumored to trade cornerback Trent McDuffie, as they never found a reliable replacement since letting Justin Reid hit free agency this past offseason. Kansas City is not afraid of moving on from a few standout athletes, like they did with L’Jarius Sneed a few years ago. If the Chiefs want to rebuild that secondary, they could look into adding Brisker to their unit.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have one of the most dangerous safety units between Jalen Ramsey and Kyler Dugger. However, they could use some depth next season, and signing Brisker to a one-year deal might make sense for both sides. It gives Brisker a chance to revitalize his career since he’s dealt with injuries and be apart of a winning secondary defense that continues to thrive playing hardcore football.
