Report: Chiefs, Chargers Fighting For “Inevitable” Trade Target

October 23, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

New York Jets running back Breece Hall is one of the most popular trade targets in the league, and two prominent ESPN writers believe that a trade could be “inevitable.” In a recent piece penned by Matt Bowen and Jeremy Fowler, the two analysts highlight the most likely trade targets throughout the league, and Hall’s name is third on the list.

Currently playing in the final year of his rookie contract, Fowler and Bowen note that “the Jets value him as a key contributor if they can somehow turn their season around. But with New York sitting at 0-7, moving players could be inevitable.” Seeing as Breece Hall is probably not in the long-term plans, the team could decide to trade the running back, and the two analysts believe the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers are the best fits.

Report: Chiefs, Chargers Leading Breece Hall Trade Talks

It’s easy to see why the Los Angeles Chargers could be interested in a Breece Hall trade. While the team has embraced a more pass-heavy mentality in 2025, head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman generally prefer to win games on the ground. This much was apparent when they spent big on veteran Najee Harris and used a first-round pick on UNC’s Omarion Hampton.

Unfortunately, both players are down for the count. While Hampton should return from the short-term injured reserve, Harris is done for the season after suffering an Achilles injury earlier in the year. Journeyman Kimani Vidal has done a remarkable job of filling in for the injured playmakers, but the Chargers need more help. After starting the year 3-0, the team is now 4-3 and tied for second place in a competitive AFC North. While he won’t fix every issue with this team, a Breece Hall trade could go a long way towards creating the offense Jim Harbaugh wants.

More Help In Kansas City

The Chiefs currently share an identical 4-3 record with the Kansas City Chiefs, but they should continue to improve as the season progresses. Top wide receiver Rashee Rice is back on the field, and he and quarterback Patrick Mahomes have a nearly unstoppable dynamic. These two, combined with a solid supporting cast, should be enough to create one of the league’s top offenses, but it wouldn’t hurt to improve the rushing attack.

Isiah Pacheco isn’t an active liability in the backfield, but there is room for improvement. The former seventh-round pick runs with vigor, but he has subpar vision and isn’t a natural pass-catcher. Andy Reid hasn’t had a true workhorse back since the prime Kareem Hunt days, and that could change with a Breece Hall trade. Hall would easily be the most talented back on the roster in over half a decade and would add a much-needed dynamic to this offense.
