In what has already been an interesting pre-draft process for USC quarterback and presumptive No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, the former Heisman Trophy winner decided to take a break from the pre-draft training to enjoy the sights and sounds of Japan.
According to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero, Williams paused his pre-draft training to go on a vacation to Tokyo with his girlfriend. Pelissero noted that Williams has basically finished doing everything he planned to do in the offseason.
“Williams has proceeded through the pre-draft process unlike any other prospect. He doesn’t have an agent, leaning instead on his own team. He paused pre-draft training to go to Tokyo with his girlfriend. He met with teams and measured at the combine, but passed on standard medical testing. He took only one visit, to the Bears,” Pelissero wrote.
Williams is in the very unique position of being one of the few absolute certainties to go No. 1 overall in an NFL Draft, much like Trevor Lawrence and Andrew Luck. With no more meetings to go to or talks to have, now is probably as good a time as any to take a vacation.
It’s probably the last big break that Williams is going to get for a long while.
But as with pretty much everything Williams does these days, there are fans complaining that this is some sort of “red flag” because he doesn’t spend every waking moment watching film or training.
All of this just means that Williams is going to be under a greater microscope than anyone after he gets drafted.
