Report: Browns Could Trade This Quarterback After 2025 Season

December 5, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After another season of disaster, the Cleveland Browns are planning to rebuild once again, as they will likely trade quarterback Shedeur Sanders this upcoming offseason. According to Bleacher Report, since veteran Deshaun Watson is returning to the lineup and his current contract could force a trade involving rookie Sanders or Dillon Gabriel. The two have competed since the start of this past offseason, but former Browns starter Joe Flacco beat them out for the role. Surprisingly, the Browns sent Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals in a trade to focus on their future in Sanders and Gabriel.

Report: Browns Could Trade Shedeur Sanders After 2025 Season

Unfortunately for the Browns, neither Sanders nor Gabriel has established themselves as a long-term quarterback for the team. The Browns will probably draft a new starting signal-caller in next year’s draft, and if that happens, they could make Sanders or Gabriel available for a trade.

Even though it looks like Sanders is winning thus far, with Gabriel being a healthy scratch and the former Colorado product remaining as the starter, it might be possible that the Browns could move on from Sanders. It took a long time for Cleveland to put Sanders in the best position to establish chemistry and a winning offense to put the Browns at least near a wild-card spot. With that, they may favor Gabriel depending on what happens to Sanders for the remainder of the 2025 campaign, and these three teams could acquire Deion Sanders’ son.

Next 2026 Landing Spots

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers still have faith in Bryce Young, but that won’t matter if he can’t back it up for next season. At 7-5, the team is having one of the best seasons in several years, so the biggest question for Carolina is if he’s for real this time. Last year, the Panthers benched Young in favor of veteran Andy Dalton, and head coach Dave Canales won’t be afraid to do it again if he doesn’t see improvement.

The Panthers should trade for Sanders this offseason to bring in some competition. Sanders prefers to be a starter, especially after seeing some productivity during his stint in Cleveland, so the Panthers might be a good spot for him. It’ll be interesting to see if Canales wants to give him a shot, but the destinations make too much sense to determine if Young is the real deal.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons find themselves in a questionable quarterback situation. They thought Michael Penix Jr. would be their long-term answer, but due to inconsistency and injury issues, the Falcons may be in line to draft a new quarterback. The team could trade for their answer in free agency, and Sanders might be the low-stakes option.

It’s not the best solution for their problem, but given that Kirk Cousins is slated to move on and Penix is yet to prove himself as a difference maker, Sanders might make sense. With him, they could draft another quarterback to have a three-way signal-caller competition.

Miami Dolphins

Meanwhile, the Dolphins need a new quarterback in the worst way possible and need a huge overhaul. Tua Tagovailoa is still on a monster contract, which could complicate things this offseason. However, this doesn’t mean they can’t trade for a couple of unproven quarterbacks. Sanders is one of them and could improve things in Miami if they build a new coaching staff.

This gives Sanders and Miami a fresh start as they’ll likely draft a quarterback in the first round of next year’s draft.
