We could have a very active first round of the 2024 NFL Draft Thursday night, with multiple teams reportedly interested in moving either up or down.
The Chicago Bears are one organization that reportedly falls in the later category. No, they aren’t trading the No. 1 overall pick, but their second top 10 offering, at No. 9, could be had for the right price, says Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
“The Chicago Bears are very open for business at 9 and telling teams they are ready to move for the right price,” Russini tweeted this afternoon.
The ninth overall pick could be a sweet spot for a team trading up for an offensive or defensive lineman, or Georgia tight end Brock Bowers. There’s also a chance Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze will still be on the board at that point.
Caleb Williams, who will be the Bears’ pick at No. 1 tonight, told reporters this week how he would handle the No. 9 pick if given the opportunity.
“If I was able to choose, and if I was picked No. 1 by the Bears, I’d probably go [Penn State offensive tackle] Olu Fashanu because I know he’d put his life on the line for me, protecting me,” Williams said. “And then, I’d probably go one of the top three wide receivers, whoever’s there at 9.”
The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft gets underway at 8 p.m. ET tonight on ABC, ESPN and NFL Network.
