C.J. Mosley Announces Retirement Ahead of 2025 Season

Mosley’s final season in the NFL was one to forget, as injuries limited him to just four games. During his truncated time on the field, the veteran recorded just 17 tackles, no tackles-for-loss, no quarterback hits, no sacks, and no passes defended. The New York Jets themselves had a similarly disappointing season, as the presence of Aaron Rodgers wasn’t enough for this team to snap their streak of missing the playoffs.

C.J. Mosley originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Selected by the Baltimore Ravens, the Alabama product immediately played a pivotal role on one of the league’s better defenses. Starting in all 16 games as a rookie, Mosely finished his inaugural season with 133 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, 12 quarterback hits, and three sacks. Thanks to his strong play, Mosley made the Pro Bowl, earned Second-Team All-Pro honors, and finished second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting, trailing only Aaron Donald.

Mosley spent four additional seasons in Baltimore, establishing himself as one of the game’s better linebackers before joining the New York Jets. After sitting out the 2020 season due to COVID-19, Mosley put together a strong debut season for the Jets. Starting and appearing in 16 games, the linebacker recorded 168 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, three quarterback hits, and two sacks. He was even better in 2022, recording 158 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, three quarterback hits, and one sack while earning Second-Team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl selection.

Prior to his retirement, C.J. Mosley played in 133 games while making 132 starts. While on the field, the veteran recorded 12 sacks, 1,083 tackles, 55 tackles-f0r-loss, 40 quarterback hits, and 12 interceptions.
