ESPN just came out with their rankings for each teams offensive weapons. Here, we discuss those rankings and share our own.
A year ago, with Keenan Allen, Khalil Herbert and Gerald Everett, ESPN ranked the Chicago Bears offensive weapons (RB, WR, TE only) as the 6th best league wide. This year, sans those three players but with the additions of first-rounder Colston Loveland, second-rounder Luther Burden III, Olamide Zaccheaus, Devin Duvernay, and Kyle Monangai, ESPN ranked them 25th. Perhaps everyone else expected another All-Pro season from Keenan Allen, but aside from that possibility, it does not make much sense how the same group can add some blue-chip talent and proven depth and drop so far.
Suffice it to say, I disagree with their rankings but not just because of where Chicago lands either. Now, ESPN is clear in that they weigh WR more heavily than other positions, which may explain the differences, but as our resident RB homer, I cannot overlook the RB position when considering the top offensive weapon groups league-wide.
Here are my rankings with ESPN’s rankings in parenthesis:
- Eagles (1) – elite RB, stellar WR’s with depth and top 10 TE.
- Ravens (8) – elite RB, stellar TE room with underrated WR corp.
- Lions (2) – elite RB room, stellar TE1 and WR1 with questions thereafter.
- Vikings (6) – Elite WR1/WR2, top 10 TE and solid, if unspectacular RB room.
- 49ers (4) – Elite RB, elite TE1, solid, if unspectacular WR corp.
- Bengals (3) – Elite WR1/WR2, solid RB room, average TE room that could surprise.
- Rams (5) – Elite WR1/WR2 with decent WR depth behind, above avg. RB and average TE.
- Falcons (9) – Elite RB room, Solid WR1/WR2 with top 10 TE (potentially top 3).
- Bucs (7) – Elite WR1/2/3, solid RB room with average TE.
- Chiefs (12) – Elite TE with solid WR1/WR2 with solid RB room.
- Bears (25) – Elite WR room, top 5 TE room, average RB room.
