Gurnee police said a pedestrian was struck and killed by a motorist Monday night near the Six Flags amusement park.
The identity of the adult male victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin and an autopsy, police said.
The man was walking in the eastbound lanes of Washington Street near the Illinois Route 21 intersection at about 10:05 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle traveling in the same direction.
Police and firefighters who responded found the man unresponsive in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorist remained at the site and is cooperating, police said.
Washington Street was closed for about five hours as police investigated.
The incident remains under investigation by Gurnee police and the Lake County Major Crash ASsistance Team
