Last weekend, we talked about Patrick Mahomes’ fantasy value, and we want to further project on that today. Despite the overall QB12 finish, Mahomes posted the second-lowest per-game fantasy average of his career at 17.7 fantasy points. By his standards and those in the fantasy football community, Mahomes was a disappointment. However, as we begin to enter the early stages of the fantasy draft season, we expect that to change in 2025 and for Mahomes to return to form!
Patrick Mahomes Fantasy Outlook
2025 Fantasy Football Profile: Patrick Mahomes
2024 In Review
2024 was not a vintage Patrick Mahomes fantasy season. He posted a career low of 3,928 passing yards, tied a career low with 26 passing touchdowns. Perhaps more telling was his career low of 6.8 yards per attempt. That passing metric is indicative of the lack of downfield or big-play throws.
On the plus side, Mahomes posted over 300 yards rushing and another two touchdowns. He is not known for his rushing ability, but Mahomes has sneaky upside in that department. In his last five seasons, Mahomes has finished in the top 12 in quarterback rushing yards. Over that span, he has rushed for at least 300 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns.
2025 Projection
Patrick Mahomes is projected for 4,089 passing yards to go along with 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He is also forecasted to rush for 333 yards and three rushing scores. As mentioned above, you get a bit of rushing upside with Mahomes.
Adding to Mahomes’ upside, Xavier Worthy showed major growth in the second half of last season. From week 11 on, Worthy averaged 15.5 fantasy points per game and finished the season with the most targets among all Chiefs wide receivers. Worthy is a player utilized at and around the line of scrimmage who can make a ‘house call’ on any play. Perhaps no one is better at utilizing offensive personnel than Andy Reid.
His most trusted weapon, tight end Travis Kelce, still finished as the overall PPR TE5. Kelce remains a vital part of the Chiefs’ offense. Backup tight end Noah Gray came on last year, posting 40 receptions, and his five touchdowns were tied for second on the team. Gray is a terrific best ball TE2 with major upside should Kelce miss anytime this season. The Chiefs’ top wide receiver Rashee Rice is on schedule to return to the Kansas City lineup as well. In three full games last season, Rice averaged 21.63 fantasy points per game. That per-game average was behind only last year’s overall WR1, Ja’Marr Chase.
Two additional players posting some offensive buzz at OTAs that can add to a Patrick Mahomes resurgence are Chiefs rookies Jalen Royals and Brashard Smith. Smith appears to be a candidate for the role of passing-down back. We saw how valuable Jerrick McKinnon was there, finishing as a top 20 fantasy running back in 2022. Jalen Royals profiles as a downfield threat and has been making plays in the red zone drills.
Patrick Mahomes Fantasy Football ADP
Patrick Mahomes currently sits as the QB6 in both Underdog and Drafters’ best ball rankings. His ADP resides between the fifth and sixth rounds. I have been able to draft him consistently in the seventh or eighth round of best ball drafts. That is a slam-dunk value in our opinion, as the Chiefs have put safeguards in place to ensure Mahomes returns to form in 2025!
