There is plenty of hype for the Bears heading into the 2025 season.
Who isn’t excited right now as a Chicago Bears fan?
It started with Ben Johnson. Then Ryan Poles beefed up the offensive line. Grady Jarrett comes out of leftfield. Finally, we reach the draft and the Bears give Ben Johnson two more toys to play with in Colston Loveland and Luther Burden.
Question of the Day: When was the last time you were this excited for a Chicago Bears season?
I think there’s been some excitement in recent years. “Caleb Williams enters the best season ever for a number one overall pick at quarterback.” That was one we were certainly hearing a year ago, and that certainly didn’t work out.
I think a lot of Bears fans were hyped for the 2023 season with Justin Fields and DJ Moore. I didn’t quite share that same level of optimism.
Of course, if you’re a pessimist, perhaps you had to go back to the Lovie years, or perhaps it was entering the 2014 season with Marc Trestman after the fun offense in 2013.
My answer: It’s amazing how many times we have a hyped season, how often this Bears team lets us down. I believe this year will be different. I’m not saying this team is going 13-4, but I think they can win 10 games, despite the tough schedule, and I think the biggest difference is we are going to see a well-coached team. I really believe that.
For me, the last time I was this excited for a Bears season was 2019 (and what a dud that turned out to be). I mean, think about it. The defense was back, I certainly thought they’d be as good as they were in 2018. Mitch Trubisky was entering year three, the traditional huge leap season for quarterbacks. Another season with all the fun weapons: Allen Robinson, Tarik Cohen, Trey Burton. What could go wrong?
Everything.
That’s what made the opening week loss to the Green Bay Packers so brutal. It wasn’t just a loss, and you thought they could bounce back. You could tell this team lost its 2018 vibes. They were dead, the season may have been decent (8-8 isn’t awful), but the Super Bowl aspirations that many of us had were shattered after week one.
Hopefully, a Bears team finally lives up to its preseason hype. It’s been a long time since that has happened!
