Fair connects veterans with DuPage County resources
The Veterans Assistance Commission of DuPage County and the DuPage County Recorder’s Office will host the annual Veterans Resource Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the county administration building, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton.
The fair is open to veterans and their families, social workers, first responders and others from DuPage County and the surrounding counties, a news release said.
Area vets will be connected with programs, benefits and services they are eligible to receive. Representatives from federal and local agencies will explain their programs and answer questions, the release said.
Some of the partners in the event are the Hines VA Hospital, the state treasurer’s and comptroller’s offices, DuPage Health Department and others. More than 50 organizations will be participating.
The county recorder’s office is offering free recordation of military discharge documents and can register veterans for the honor rewards program to receive discounts and perks at local businesses.
Refreshments and door prizes will be available.

New system allows public to comment on Naperville meetings
Residents who want to comment on topics for upcoming board or commission meetings can use a new online form, city officials said.
The city has introduced a form for members of the public who cannot attend a meeting in person but want to submit a written comment or position statement, officials said in a news release.
To participate, go to www.naperville.il.us/bc-comment and select which board or commission should receive the message through a drop-down menu. More than a dozen boards are available, including the board of fire and police commissioners, financial advisory board, liquor commission and transportation advisory board.
Submissions are due at least 24 hours before the meeting’s start time, the release said. All comments submitted by the deadline will be shared with board and commission members ahead of the meeting.
Written comments will not be read aloud during the meeting, and comments received after the deadline will not be shared.
Community members interested in sharing comments in person can attend the meeting and follow the public comment process.
This new process complements the existing methods for submitting comments to the Naperville City Council and Naperville Planning and Zoning Commission, which will continue to operate separately, the release said.
