Respiratory illnesses rising in DuPage: health department
The DuPage County Health Department has issued a warning that respiratory illnesses are on the rise and is urging residents to take proper precautions.
Influenza, or the flu, is at a high level and increasing, a department news release said. COVID-19 activity is moderate and increasing and RSV is low but also increasing.
A higher number of emergency department visits have been observed compared to this time last year. As of Friday, 51 DuPage County residents had been admitted to intensive care units due for flu-related illness and complications and there have been three deaths, the release said.
Less than a third of DuPage County residents are vaccinated against influenza, said Adam Forker, executive director of the DuPage County Health Department.
Flu shots are still available. They reduce the risk of severe illness and help keep people out of the hospital, the health department said.
