A man driving a stolen car with an open whiskey bottle on his lap was killed Wednesday in a head-on collision in Ingleside, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The identity of the man has not been released by authorities.
The sheriff’s office said the collision happened at about 5 a.m. on Illinois Route 134, east of North Catherine Street.
The man, who was driving a Honda sedan, was westbound on Route 134 when he suddenly drove into the oncoming lane and collided with an eastbound work truck. The truck driver, a 44-year-old Johnsburg man, phoned 911 to report the crash and request an ambulance.
He was taken to a hospital with what police said were not life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He apparently had an open bottle of whiskey in his lap, police said. The car he was driving was reported stolen on Tuesday from a Fox Lake gym.
The crash remains under investigation, police said.
