After one disastrous season, the Las Vegas Raiders have decided to fire head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll, who had just finished his age-74 season, finished his lone season in Las Vegas with a last-place finish, but previously had success with the New York Jets, New England Patriots, USC Trojans, and Seattle Seahawks.

To say the 2025 season did not go according to plan for the Las Vegas Raiders would be an understatement. Originally brought out of a one-year hiatus, Carroll was supposed to bring this team back into contention, especially after the team acquired quarterback Geno Smith. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, as Vegas was one of the worst teams in football and finished the season at the bottom of the AFC West. Given his age, this could be the final stop in his coaching career.
Pete Carroll has been coaching at the collegiate or NFL level in some capacity since 1973, but he first earned head coaching honors in the 1994 season. Leading the New York Jets, Carroll went 6-10 before Bill Parcells took over in 1995. Carroll then became the New England Patriots head coach in 1997, going 27-21 and making two playoff appearances in his three seasons with the franchise.
Pete Carroll spent most of the next decade at USC after the Patriots fired him for Bill Belichick. Leading the Trojans from 2001 to 2009, Carroll guided the organization to an impressive 97-19 record while winning two National Championships and five additional conference titles. He then rejoined the NFL in 2010 with the Seattle Seahawks and won Super Bowl 48 with second-year quarterback Russell Wilson. Carroll went 137-89-1 in his 14 years with the team.
