Josh Jacobs is clearly the top back in Green Bay, but what is his dynasty outlook at 27 years old? Fresh off an RB6 finish, Jacobs is the latest running back where managers will try to walk the line between competing and knowing when to sell. Let’s look at his situation, price, and figure out if managers should get out while they can or buy back in.
Josh Jacobs Dynasty Outlook
Current Performance
There were some real concerns for Josh Jacobs’ dynasty outlook after the 2023 season. It was his first time outside the top 12 in fantasy running backs in three years, and the Las Vegas Raiders decided to let him move on. Historically, running backs on new teams have underperformed for fantasy football, but 2024 bucked that trend. Jacobs, Derrick Henry, and Saquon Barkley all finished in the top six on their new teams.
Jacobs returned to his normal volume-eating role in Green Bay. He handled three-fifths of all carries and added almost a full yard per attempt compared to his 2023 numbers. Part of this was Josh Jacobs being one of the more underrated running backs in dynasty and NFL rankings. Part of it was that everyone else on the Packers ended up injured. Marshawn Lloyd spent most of the season on IR. A.J. Dillon spent the whole season there. It reached the point that their backup running back was Emanuel Wilson, a former UDFA on his second team. As the backups get healthy in Green Bay, there’s a chance Jacobs doesn’t earn the same volume he did in 2024.
Josh Jacobs Dynasty Price
Jacobs is currently the RB16 on Fantasycalc, a computer-generated set of dynasty rankings taking real startups and trade values to formulate ranks. He’s just ahead of R.J. Harvey, and behind James Cook and Christian McCaffrey. If rookie fever has bitten your league mates, flipping Harvey for Jacobs is a safe, easy move to make to score sure points in 2025. Given how long Josh Jacobs has been in the league, a lot of dynasty managers assume he’s 29 or 30. He just turned 27, and is still due for two years of fantasy excitement at worst.
What to do With Josh Jacobs in Dynasty
Rebuilding Teams
Wait until the season kicks off before offloading him. May is the worst time to sell veteran running backs, and once the season rolls around and he is hitting top-ten numbers, his price is going to jump back up. Slow-performing rookies might have their price suppressed early in the season, so waiting until October and flipping Jacobs for some of the 2025 rookies and a future pick will be easier to do.
Middle of the Road Teams
Jacobs is the kind of player who can help you sneak into the playoffs, but if your roster isn’t ready to compete, that’s not the best thing. Either push the chips in at other positions to try and win a championship, or follow the rebuilding advice.
Competing Teams
Jacobs is one of the cheapest, valuable running backs with multiple years left of projected value. Selling a 2026 first for Jacobs is an easy deal to accept, or tiering down from Barkley, McCaffrey, or Kyren Williams to build a treasure chest of future picks can keep a competing team at the top for years to come.
